William specialises in mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital. This includes particular expertise in relation to cross-border transactions, having practiced in firms in the UK and France.
He has acted on cross-border transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $15 billion USD in the last 12 months.
His clients include a wide range of multi-national companies, funds and growth companies in deals covering a variety of jurisdictions. His practice areas include M&A, international group reorganisations, commercialisation of technology with particular sectorial expertise in technology and life sciences. He also advises numerous technology companies and spin-outs on their commercial strategy and fund-raising.
The team was awarded “Deal and Dealmakers of the Year” by the Business Insider in 2014. He was also awarded "Corporate Lawyer of the Year" at the 2009/10 Law Awards of Scotland.
He is involved in a range of Franco-British initiatives and is an active member of the American Bar Association. He is a regular speaker on private equity and international M&A topics, including the American Bar Association, Union Internationale des Avocats and other domestic and international conferences.
William has been passionate about promoting the technology sector and formulating best-practice, with involvement in publicly-funded think-tanks (aimed at increasing the country's global competitiveness) and advising universities on the commercialisation of the research base. He is an active member of the Scottish Council for Development & Industry (SCDI), sitting on both the Innovation Steering Group and the International Business Committee.
