We are delighted to invite you to our half day local government conference on Wednesday 2 May 2018.

We have selected a variety of topical issues that we hope will be of interest to practitioners in a number of service areas and to local government lawyers in particular. The agenda will be delivered by Brodies lawyers and guest speakers. It includes:

  • New Duties for Local Government – an overview of a range of new duties that will impact on Scottish local authorities in areas including social care and education, as well as a discussion on the new socio economic duty under the Equality Act 2010.
  • Projects: Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) – a presentation on the power of local authorities to establish ESCOs including powers to generate and supply heat and electricity. This session will also look at other legal and administrative limits that are of relevance to local authority ESCOs.
  • Planning Reform – speakers will consider the main provisions of the Bill and comment on whether the Bill will be effective in delivering culture change within the Scottish planning system.
  • The Year in Review – a gentle run through recent case law of relevance to local government in Scotland.

We are aiming for a relaxed atmosphere to encourage an exchange of views and to accommodate questions and comments from participants.

Registration on the day will run from 9:00am to 9:30am with breakfast provided.
The conference also qualifies for valuable CPD time and delegates can request a formal certificate of attendance.
