Spirits maker Pernod Ricard has appointed Brodies LLP, Scotland's largest law firm, to its UK legal panel.

Pernod Ricard, which owns whisky brand Chivas Regal, as well as Malibu and Absolut Vodka, finalised its legal panel following a review by Amanda Hamilton-Stanley, the general counsel for the company's Scottish whisky and gin division Chivas Brothers.

Although Brodies' relationship with Chivas Bros, one of Pernod Ricard's sister companies, dates back to 1996, this is a new panel appointment for the firm.

Brodies' appointment to the panel, which includes all commercial legal services, follows an intensive tendering process involving senior lawyers from across the firm. The appointment allows any of Pernod Ricard's large umbrella of sister companies in the UK to instruct Brodies over the next two to three years.

The new panel has reduced significantly, with the intention of establishing ever closer relationships with a smaller panel of preferred providers. Brodies' bid was assessed against a range of criteria, including the ability to provide a broad range of services, an understanding of business needs, and a demonstration of affinity and insight with Pernod Ricard's values, including service delivery and quality.

Shuna Stirling, Head of Corporate at Brodies LLP, said: "We are delighted to be appointed formally to continue to support the needs of our client Pernod Ricard/Chivas Bros as we move into what promises to be an exciting phase of doing business in Europe."
