Brodies LLP has been named Scotland IP Firm of the Year at the prestigious Managing Intellectual Property Global Awards in London for the fourth consecutive year.
Partners Robert Buchan and Gill Grassie and Associate Shona Tennant from Brodies' IP team received the accolade, which recognises excellence in innovation and specialist intellectual property work, at an awards evening at London's Savoy Hotel last night.
Now in their 12th year, the Managing IP Global Awards are the highlight of the global IP calendar. Winners are selected by Managing IP's team of editors and researchers, based on the publication's world IP survey, recent market developments and client feedback.
Projects undertaken by Brodies' IP team over the last year included working with Powerleague on a brand partnership with Adidas, and leading and co-ordinating an international trade mark dispute for a Scottish-based company covering over 30 countries.
The team also advised a global oil and gas services company on international patent rights ahead of launching new technology and worked with the University of Edinburgh on establishing a joint venture to accelerate the commercialisation of patentable technology developed by the Roslin Institute, which was home to Dolly the sheep, the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell.
Other clients include Krispy Kreme, PRS for Music (Performing Right Society), the Scottish Qualifications Authority, The Scotch Whisky Association, DC Thomson and BAE Systems.
The accolade follows Brodies' 'Gold' ranking earlier this year in the World Trademark Review's global list of leading trademark professionals, which was also the fourth consecutive year that the firm's IP team has achieved recognition for the quality of its work in this area.
Gill Grassie, Head of IP Dispute Resolution at Brodies, said: "We are delighted to be named the Scotland IP Firm of the Year for the fourth year in a row.
"This award is testament to the hard work and commitment of our IP team in providing businesses and entrepreneurs in Scotland and overseas with expert advice on protecting their intellectual assets, and also to the ongoing support of our clients.
"This has been a strong year for our IP team and we look forward to working on new challenges in support of all our clients' interests over the coming 12 months."
Brodies' IP team is ranked top tier in both of the leading independent legal directories, Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.
