Scottish para-athlete, Melanie Woods, has announced a new sponsorship agreement with leading Scottish and UK top 50 law firm, Brodies LLP.

The agreement will see the Glasgow-based athlete, who came fifth in the T54 800m at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, work with the firm on a number of wellbeing and motivational initiatives. This will follow her participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, in which she has medal hopes in the 400m, 800m and 1500m track events.

Melanie Woods said: “I am really grateful for Brodies' sponsorship ahead of a busy year for me, alongside the 2024 Paralympic Games I have already competed in London Diamond league 800m and the British National Championships, after the summer my focus will move towards participation in the World Para Athletic Championships in 2025."

A former PE teacher, Ms Woods began her career in Para Athletics following a 2018 accident which resulted in spinal trauma injuries and paralysis from the waist down.

She continued: "Brodies is a long-term supporter of sport in Scotland, and I'm looking forward to working with the firm to further break down the barriers that many face when trying to find sport and movement that inspires and encourages their own journeys."

Stephen Goldie, managing partner, Brodies LLP also said: "We are delighted to be supporting Melanie on her journey towards the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and beyond. Our shared values will not only promote awareness of sport and general wellness, but we hope it will also increase positive attitudes towards inclusive activity.

"We are inspired by Melanie's physical and mental strength, not to mention the outstanding levels of determination and resilience which have been key to the success she's enjoyed as a para athlete so far, and there's clearly much more to come."
