Another week, another round up of the latest fines. A couple of sizeable fines have been handed down by Scottish courts this week (w/e 15th September 2011) following industrial incidents. Alexander Dennis, bus manufacturer, was fined £50,000 after pleading guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Employee Samuel Murray suffered broken teeth and a gash on the chin in the incident. The news report can be accessed here.
A farm operator was fined £112,500 following the death of an employee who became trapped in machinery. The news report can be accessed here.
The level of fines handed down for health and safety breaches have increased significantly over the past 12 months and the trend seems set to stay.
