Health & Safety

Targeting senior members of large organisations, the “refreshed and enhanced” Managing for Health and Safety guidance has now been launched by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). The HSE had already created guidance specifically for SMEs in the form of Health and safety made simple and the Health & Safety toolbox.

The HSE hopes that health & safety will become more embedded in management if a “plan, do, check, act” approach is adopted – i.e by:

(i) planning your policy and identifying what you need to make it work;

(ii) implementing and managing the policy;

(iii) reviewing how you are doing with reference to defined measurements and accident investigation;

(iv) making necessary changes.

The HSE’s guidance document on Health & Safety Management is to be re-issued (date to be confirmed) to reflect the new approach. Meantime, business leaders may wish to familiarise themselves with the HSE webpage.
