I can’t help notice the fact that fines for breaches of the HSAWA are on the increase in Scotland. Since the introduction of the England & Wales sentencing guidelines on 15th February, Scottish courts have been imposing hefty fines in fatal cases.
In February, Tullis Russell were fines £260,000. In March, Piper Dam were fines £120,000. Today, Robertson Construction Central Ltd, Elgin, and Stirling Stone Ltd were fined £200,000 each for breaching the HSAWA and causing fatal injuries to James Kelly. We’ll be monitoring decisions in the coming weeks and will keep you updated.
