Health & Safety

As the BBC website reported here, it looks like members of the public are continuing to turn to emergency health services with trivial injuries. NHS West Kent politely turned the lady away so you might think our courts would do the same. History suggests otherwise…

In 2002, a train driver sued her employer following a work accident in which her fingernail was bruised and later fell off. The court case was raised in Scotland’s highest (and most expensive) civil court of first instance and although he was “surprised”, the judge refused to transfer it to a lesser Sheriff Court! There’s a good chance that reform of our court system will finally remove trivial claims from our highest court. It’s nail-biting stuff so keep checking this blog for updates!
