Planning & Environment

Rockall is 100 foot wide, 70 foot high and a 250 mile boat trip from Stornoway in the Western Isles. A strange location for a planning permission saga.

In May 2010 Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council) granted planning permission for erection of a plaque on Rockall. It will replace a previous plaque which officially claimed the site as part of the UK.

An expedition to Rockall, including “adventurer” Andy Strangeway, from Full Sutton, East Yorkshire was due to leave this month. Unfortunately it has been cancelled. So no commencement of development on Rockall any time soon.
