Public Law

It’s finally here. The Scottish Government’s White Paper ‘Guide to an Independent Scotland’ was launched at Glasgow’s Science Centre this morning by Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon. The 670-page document can be found here, though at the moment downloading it is a very slow process, as there is obviously a significant demand. The Scottish Government has also published a 49-page summary document for the less committed amongst you.

Some of the immediate media coverage of the document can be found here, here, here, here, here and here (take your pick!).

We will be commenting on some of the key legal issues today and over the next few days, but my immediate reaction from watching the First Minister and Deputy First Minister’s Q&A is that there are no significant departures from the arguments advanced to date. As any lawyer will tell you, however, the devil is in the details. We’re off devil-hunting now, so do stay tuned…
