Scotland’s first Land Use Strategy, laid in Parliament on 17 March 2011, acknowledges that renewable energy is a key resource, to be managed strategically, as part of the objective of “Land-based businesses working with nature to contribute more toScotland’s prosperity”.

That objective is one of the “three pillars of sustainability”. The others are:

  • Responsible stewardship of Scotland’s natural resources delivering more benefits toScotland’s people
  • Urban and rural communities better connected to the land, with more people enjoying the land and positively influencing land use

These objectives are supported by 10 Principles for Sustainable Land Use, which will probably come to be used as a benchmark by both developers and objectors.
