We are proud to offer our colleagues a generous family friendly leave policy. This includes (for colleagues with over one year of service):
- 39 weeks of paid family leave (maternity, adoption and shared parental leave) with up to 26 weeks of full salary
- Paternity leave up to four weeks of full salary
- Time off for fertility treatment
- Parental leave that is available for parents, grandparents, and foster carers
- Dependent leave, whether that be for your child, your parent or anyone who relies on you for assistance
We have developed our policies in collaboration with our Parents' network which was established to share experiences and ideas, create a supportive community, raise awareness of relevant issues, and inform firm policy.
Carer Positive
We are delighted that Brodies have been awarded a Carer Positive Engaged status. It is important for us a firm to recognise and support our colleagues with caring responsibilities. With an ageing population and growing awareness of different disabilities the number of carers within the firm is only going to increase, we want to ensure we have the correct policies, training and resources in place to support our talented colleagues who have caring responsibilities. Find out more about our Carers' network.
Through regular meetings, the PNG provides a supportive network for parents and parents-to-be in the firm. We also host informative firm-wide webinars on relevant topics such as cyber security, children's mental health and how to deal with parental guilt and anxiety.
Parent's network member
Parenting is hard. Hugely rewarding, but hard. Having to juggle life and work with that can be difficult and that's why it's important to share your journey and normalise the steps you take, and others can, to make that balance work.
Alisdair Matheson, Partner
On a personal level, parenting out loud is my way of trying to achieve a balance between work and family life that allows me to be an equal and active parent to my daughter – that's not easy, but it can only happen if I am open and honest about my childcare responsibilities. At a wider level, I hope that my parenting out loud encourages other dads to do the same and that together we can challenge and change expectations about the role of dads as caregivers.
Andrew Deanshaw, Associate
Sharing how we handle our parental responsibilities is so important for creating a more equal approach to parents in the workplace. Unhelpful gendered assumptions still exist about how parents handle the daily juggle of school runs, medical appointments, WhatsApp group hysteria and the rest. The more vocal dads are about their role, the quicker we will change those assumptions.
