Tell us about your role

I’m a partner in our rural business and natural capitalteam, based in our Inverness office. I predominantly act for rural landowningclients and advise them on a very wide variety of matters including sales,purchases and renewable energy.

Why do you enjoy working in this area of law?

The workload is incredibly varied, which is a big part of the attraction. I occasionally get to visit clients on their farms or estates, and that allows me to get out and about to some of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. It’s also incredible to see how passionate they are about their business.

Apart from the necessary skills and knowledge, what other quality is essential for the role you perform?

Staying calm under pressure. Being a solicitor can be stressful, and some situations are more intense than others. Maintaining a calm approach and an overall sense of perspective is important.

What is so special about working at Brodies?

The people. They are friendly, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. Working with some of the top experts in their respective fields is a real privilege.

What is your greatest achievement?

A bit of a cliché, but my children!

Where has been your favourite travel destination and why?

Canadian Rockies – wilderness, nice people and grizzly bears.
