This in-person event is designed for consular representatives seeking insight into how international child abduction cases are handled in Scotland and the extent of local authority involvement in family matters.
Our expert team will explore:
- the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction: its purpose and how the Scottish Central Authority and courts approach these cases;
- recent trends and key decisions in the area of child abduction in Scotland; and
- the role of local authorities in Scotland, including:
- their duties to provide care and protection for children living in Scotland;
- how they assess risk and act to protect children from harm; and
- their involvement in inter-country adoptions.
With an international focus, this session will help consuls navigate Scotland's legal framework and understand how state intervention may affect families from their jurisdictions.
