On 4 September 2024, Sir Martin-Moore Bick published his long-awaited Phase 2 Report into the Grenfell Tower Fire. The Report, which runs to 1700 pages, explains in detail the background to the fire, where opportunities were missed to prevent the situation arising and criticises a number of organisations who it found contributed to the tragedy. Importantly, the Report also contains a number of recommendations which the Inquiry hope will help ensure that a tragedy such as Grenfell never happens again.

Eric Johnstone and Amy Anderson will discuss the outcomes and recommendations of the Report and how, if implemented, these might impact on businesses involved in construction going forward. The topics covered will include:

  • how governmental responsibilities and guidance might change to provide a better framework for those working in the industry;
  • how regulation and licencing for those that work in the industry – and particularly on higher risk buildings – may change; and
  • the potential implications of compliance failures - including enforcement action and prosecution - for construction companies, directors and managers
