The Rural Business and Natural Capital team would be delighted if you could join them in person at our Rural Business Briefing below.
Our event will feature content relevant to every stage of the rural business and growth lifecycle – from protecting, managing and mitigating risk to your assets, to how to successfully pass your assets on. The briefing is aimed at owners and managers of estates, farms and businesses in the rural community with presentations on the pressing issues and the latest updates to keep you informed.
The agenda will cover:
Land reform - Considering aspects of the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill which may have adverse impacts on future sales, leases and development of land.
Utilities - Focusing on the upgrade of the electricity networks to support the transition to clean energy, we will look at the powers held by electricity licence holders and provide pointers on how best to protect your interests and secure fair compensation.
Succession & tax - We will explore the challenges and opportunities that arise when a single farm, estate, or business is passed down to multiple heirs in Scotland. We will consider the implications of diversification and natural capital projects on inheritance tax. We will also briefly discuss the upcoming Autumn Budget and the impact this may have on inheritance tax and associated reliefs.
Natural capital - We will look at the natural capital and carbon sequestration markets as they are currently operating in Scotland, including approaches to risk and reward. We will also consider opportunities for market participation, possible barriers and how these may be overcome.
Refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity for networking.
