Buchanan Wharf in Glasgow is a complex and multi-faceted regeneration deal and is one of the UK's largest construction projects.

Brodies advised on all real estate, planning and construction matters relating to the development, including the development of a new 470,000 sq.ft. campus headquarters for Barclays Bank, and a deal with L&G for the forward fund of a 324 unit build to rent (BTR) scheme, together with creative place making and the procurement of significant new elements of public realm.

Key highlights

  • Acquisition of the development site which included a complex site assembly process and management of multiple option contracts.
  • Negotiation and agreement of the land sale to Barclays together with numerous funding development agreements.
  • Advising on all infrastructure and public realm issues for the development.
  • Structuring of a series of inter-related contracts to manage the multiple development phases of the project.
Brodies has a first rate understanding of the commercial realities of our business and are focused on getting deals done. Graeme Bone, Group Managing Director, Drum Property Group

Outcome

Buchanan Wharf is one of Glasgow’s most significant waterside city centre developments and is set to transform a neglected area of the Clyde waterfront. The development is ongoing, and we continue to support Drum with high-level strategic advice and detailed project management across all legal matters. When complete, the site will provide more than a million square feet of prime Grade A office space, residential accommodation and a mix of local amenities.
