The Scottish Government has launched a consultation on the extension of FOI to registered social landlords (RSLs).The consultation runs from 1 December 2016 to 23 February 2017.

It is likely that a number of RSLs will have some working knowledge of the FOI regime but for many it will introduce new administrative requirements and, potentially, a requirement fortraining for staff who will be responsible for FOIcompliance.

The Scottish Government's intention is that the regime will apply only to the public functions of RSLs and not to trading subsidiaries. At present the intention is that the extension will apply to all RSLs regardless of size.

It is the view of the Scottish Government that this extension of FOI will place RSL tenant's on an equal footing with local authority tenants when it comes to accessing information held by their landlords.
