During summer 2018 there was a consultation on increasing the permitted size for an individual society lottery. Currently the size and prize limits on society lotteries mean that there is the need for larger lotteries to operate an umbrella model with a number of societies (charities or CICs) rather than a single legal entity.
From a recent written question at Westminster, there has been an update on when more might be heard on this.
Carolyn Harris (MP for Swansea East) asked the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, "what steps DCMS is taking to meet its objective of helping society lotteries to thrive?" Mims Davies, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at DCMS, responded by saying:- "In response to a written question asking what steps are being taken to meet the objective of helping society lotteries to thrive, DCMS stated that it hopes to respond to the June 2018 consultation considering proposals to amend society lottery sales and prize limits, which aim to allow society lotteries to grow while protecting the National Lottery, in the first half of 2019."
