Interesting to see that Scottish Ministers have committed £150,000 for Simplified Planning Zone housing pilots- prospectus and form.

Although the fund is open to local authorities, the Ministers are interested in joint applications involving landowners, developers, housing associations, third sector organisations, groups interested in self- and custom build and delivery bodies.

Benefits include:

  • streamlined and simplified planning process, saving time, money and effort to developers and investors
  • positive development management tool using proportionate planning controls
  • promotional tool encouraging positive investment decisions through the certainty provided by the SPZ scheme

There's a good "how to" guide, based on Renfrewshire Council's experience in creating the first SPZ for a town centre in Scotland.
