This session will look at the impact of relationship breakdown such as separation and divorce on financial planning. We will also consider the practical options available to clients as part of their estate planning to mitigate the impact of relationship breakdown.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand potential challenging forces in financial planning caused by:-
    • the breakdown of marriage; and
    • the end of a cohabiting couple’s relationship.
  • Be able to speak to your clients about these issues.
  • Be able to identify where problems might arise and how legal advice, collaboration and early action can mitigate these problems.
