Brodies Environmental Law Lecture Series, in partnership with Edinburgh Law School, returns for its 28th year this month.
The lecture series provides an invaluable forum for the discussion of key developments in environmental law. Over the years we have welcomed many distinguished speakers from the UK and overseas who have helped to shape thinking on environmental law.
Ben Pontin, Professor of Law, Cardiff University kicks off the series with the Charles Smith Memorial lecture on Thursday 23 January on The British Way of Environmental Protection. He will provide an alternative perspective to the widely held view that Brexit could be a threat to environmental protection and environmental law, and will discuss the opportunity for UK environmental protection outside a pan-European framework.
The second lecture on Thursday 5th March will be given by Alice Garton, Legal Director for the Foundation for International Law for the Environment. In her lecture Climate Litigation: Systemic Change Through Strategic Use of the Law she will discuss the role of litigation in combating climate and ecological emergencies.
