The Lobbying (Scotland) Act 2016 comes fully into force from Monday 12 March 2018 and regulates face to face contact with MSPs, Scottish Ministers and senior servants. From that date, new duties to provide information to the Lobbying Registrar take effect and new criminal offences relating to failures to provide information also come into play. The stated intention of the Act is to increase public transparency around lobbying and it will affect not only professional lobbyists but businesses and other organisations who have discussions with Scottish parliamentarians.
