Aberdeen City and Shire has demonstrated tremendous resilience following the recent economic challenges. As confidence returns to the north east, it is imperative that we focus on how we put the region in the strongest possible position to create sustainable commercial prospects and drive economic growth. Positive initiatives, such as the creation of Opportunity North East and the City Region Deal, have been a catalyst for change and it is important that the business community comes together to formulate a cohesive strategy and vision for the future.

Brodies and Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce are hosting a series of breakfasts over the coming months to engage with local businesses and encourage them to share their vision for the future. We are bringing together business leaders, key community figures and sector specialists to share insights and help draft a route map to sustainable growth for the region. The events will feature a networking breakfast from 8.00am, a short overview by the panellists from 8.30am, and questions from the audience until 9.30am.

Scotland Food & Drink has implemented an industry-wide strategy that focuses on people and skills, innovation and collaborative supply chains to drive growth in the sector, while other initiatives are promoting and inspiring local producers. In the first three months of 2017, the Scottish food and drink sector recorded £1.2 billion in exports, an increase of £124 million on the previous year. What does this mean for the north east? Our panel of experts will discuss the current opportunities and challenges facing the industry, including:

  • the potential to create a vibrant food tourism industry across the region;
  • international trade post-Brexit;
  • the need for innovation to increase productivity;
  • the impact of commodity prices and business rates; and
  • what is needed to strengthen the supply chain.

We hope you will join us in exploring this exciting path of opportunity for the north-east economy, and contribute your thoughts and ideas to the discussion.
