Partner and co-head of our Brexit Advisory Group Charles Livingstone will explain how the law will be affected by Brexit, including:

  • How the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 will incorporate EU law into Scots law at the point of Brexit;
  • How EU law and Scots law will be amended to operate effectively post-Brexit;
  • How the Scottish courts will interpret EU law post-Brexit, including with reference to European Court precedents; and
  • The areas of law in which the Scottish Parliament and Government will have greater scope to do things differently post-Brexit, including differently from the rest of the UK.

These changes will affect legal issues that are vitally important to local authorities, including employment law, health and safety, environmental law, public procurement and State aid. It is therefore vital that local authority lawyers understand and can anticipate the legal changes that Brexit will produce.
