As a firm, we are committed to being a neuroinclusive employer and to creating an environment where our neurodivergent colleagues feel supported to reach their full potential at work.

Neuroinclusion working group

In early 2024, we established a neuroinclusion working group, for colleagues to contribute to our firm's progress on a variety of neuroinclusion initiatives. The group is made up of individuals who are passionate about supporting the firm's commitment to neuroinclusion, because

  • they identify as being neurodivergent;
  • are a parent/carer of neurodivergent young people; or want to contribute to fostering positive change across the firm.

The working group also provides a forum for sharing lived experiences with colleagues who can relate.

As a trainee, I push myself to function at 120% all the time, but the world—and workplaces—aren't designed for people like me. I want to help create a workplace where neurodiverse individuals are not only included but thrive, bringing fresh perspectives to the legal profession. I joined the neuroinclusion working group to help make Brodies a firm that genuinely supports and values neurodiverse talent, setting an example for other firms to follow.

Partnership with Mindroom

To support us in our neuroinclusion journey, we have a partnership with neurodiversity charity Mindroom. Mindroom, a fantastic charity which helps increase the awareness of neurodiversity in the workplace and improve access to support for neurodivergent colleagues. Disabling Barriers Scotland (DBS)

We are proud to partner with Disabling Barriers Scotland (DBS), an organisation dedicated to disability inclusion within the legal sector. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Brodies commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for all.

DBS offers vital advocacy, education, and engagement for aspiring and practicing disabled legal professionals. As founding partners, we will work together to support this community and engage in collaborative initiatives throughout the year.

We are pleased to have become a partner of DBS, and to work with its team, as well as the other partner organisations, to foster awareness and increase understanding across the Scottish Legal profession. Together, it's our aim to collaborate in order to remove obstacles faced by all lawyers with disabilities throughout their legal careers, as-well as all others who pursue roles working in the legal sector.

What we've achieved

Some examples of ongoing activity in relation to our commitment to neuroinclusion include:

  • Running awareness raising and education sessions to reduce stigma and normalise conversations about neurodiversity
  • Rolling out a reasonable adjustments passport pilot with our first-year trainees
  • Creating an inclusive language guide for colleagues
  • Introducing questions relating to disability and neurodivergence, as part of capturing diversity data for all colleagues
  • Creating a neuroinclusion hub with online resources for all colleagues to access

    Wellbeing at Brodies

At Brodies we don’t look at wellbeing as a programme because the wellbeing of our colleagues is central to all that we do.

    Colleague networks

Our colleague networks give colleagues a collective voice to enable positive change. They provide a safe space for discussion, to raise awareness of topics that matter, and to assist in the delivery of our inclusion & diversity strategy.
