Describe your role

I'm the innovation & technology (I&T) director for Brodie's, and that involves keeping on top of what's happening in the technology field, constantly upgrading, and that's one of the really exciting things about working in technology. It's never the same; it's always changing, and we are constantly having to upgrade our skills and our knowledge as things progress.

What is the purpose of an I&T director?

I'd say the role of I&T director is looking at how we can make things better, how we can change things, but also making sure that today we have the tools that we need to be able to be successful.

Are you part of any colleague networks?

I'm part of the colleague network for neuro-inclusion. I'm senior sponsor of that group, and I can see there how important it is for us to make small changes that can help people to feel included. It's something that's very close to my heart, and I'm really proud to work for a firm where those values are really lived.

How do you think AI will change work in law firms?

I think AI presents huge opportunities to make people’s lives easier. It can take on many of the more repetitive, less interesting tasks, allowing us to focus on work that is more rewarding and valuable. By automating routine processes, AI can free people up to concentrate on the things that are uniquely human and that make us truly successful, such as, applying judgement, showing empathy, and using our knowledge and experience to solve clients’ problems.

If you weren't in I&T, what would you work in?

I've always been interested in music and, when I was younger, I probably would have said a rockstar. These days, though, I think I'd be more interested in the production side of the industry. Being able to work with music every day would feel like a real luxury, and it's something I think I'd get a kick from.
